Recoil
« on: November 02, 2006, 05:20:50 AM »
I have owned (and fired) a couple of .454 Casull's from FA's as well as a .475 Linebaugh with no problems.

I also have a S&W Scandium J-frame .357 and have no problem with it's recoil.

How much worse would a 460S&W be in an Encore, any ideas? I know it would be difficult to quantify, but just looking for a baseline.

Thanks again!

Mark

Just remember the Encore set up is different than any revolver. The recoil in an Encore or any break open hand gun is going to be more than a revolver in the same caliber. The revolvers allow for gases to escape in the cylinder gap area, the Encore does not have that, so you get the full effect of the recoil. I had a 460 Mag in an Encore, I shot it and found it quit a handful, I sent it off and had a muzzle brake installed and it tamed it down to a more manageable recoil.
If  you're going to make a hole, make it a big one.

I prefer 454 Casulls and Corbon 45 Colts in my 460 15" Encore. Recoil sharper than my 7-08 or 45-70 Contender. I'm 65 and have weak wrists now, thanks to "arthur" Cost of 460 ammo too high at the moment, need to reload for sure.
