Pro hunter barrels on a regular Encore
« on: November 03, 2006, 12:56:04 AM »
Will a pro hunter barrel fit on regular encore?  Is there any advantage the pro hunter barrels have over regular??

Thanks

Yes they will fit, the advantage in the pro-hunter barrel is they are longer and have the fluted barrels to aid in cooling. Also they look cool.

As a single shot woods hunter I see this more as a DISadvantage.  I hope T/C will continue to make Encore barrels.

What I mean is as a still-hunter in heavy timber, I want a light small rifle easy to carry and not catching on limbs & as  a hunter, why should I be concerned with barrel getting too hot?  I see long heavy fluted barrel to be advantage  for long range target shooting, not short range still-hunting in heavy cover.

I guess that is why they make both, some of us like the longer barrels, it is all personal choice.

Look at these figures guys!

I just took these measurements on 3 of my rifles.

Remington M-7, length is 38 inches.
T/C Encore (w/26 inch barrel) length is 40 1/2 inches.
Remington M-700, length is 44 inches.

That means that a T/C Encore with a 28 inch barrel will measure 42 1/2 inch, and that is 4 1/2 inches longer than my M-7 and 1 1/2 inches shorter than my M-700.

Some people tend to forget about how the T/C is set up, the action (as far as length goes) is very short so, Encores can sport a long barrel and still be short, overall.

I've got a 30-06 Pro-Hunter barrel for my standard reciever and it shoots great.  With the absence of any moving parts in the action, the longer barrel still results in a fairly short rifle.  Similar to a 28" barreled SxS or O/U shotgun compared to a 26" barreled autoloader or pump gun.  If you are just gonna use it for hunting, and want a shorter rifle for the whitetail woods, I think that's a good combo  too.

I have to admit though, that part of the reason I bought the PH barrel is that I think they look cool.... ;D  And I may use it for an Elk hunt some day.....

Where is the best/cheapest place to purchase one.  I have a standard encore with walnut forend and stock and was looking for a 28" blued prohunter muzzleloader barrel barrel.
