Are guns like women?
« on: November 03, 2006, 05:00:46 AM »
Ok, I'll answer that with a 'no'.  But hear me out.  What kind of fond memories do you have?  Which brings the biggest smile when you think back?  Most women don't understand our attachment to our guns.  Yes, a gun is a tool and a 'tool' has no spirt.  But what we are dealing with here is not just a tool.  We are dealing with memories.  Memories of happy times and places.  Memories of things done together.  Memories of fall leaves, warm sun, a good dog, and quiet walks in the woods.  Memories of a younger body, more stamina, and better eyesight.  Of times long past when you could shoot cans and rats at the dump.  Or dirt clods as you walked in the field and no one would get offended.  Or possibly that one exceptional shot in front of your friends that won you their respect for years.  Some guns are a reminder and a symbol of those times.  Like a picture of your someone you have loved.  It is just a picture, but it envokes strong memories of times long past.  A gun that has traveled on your hip through many adventures is that kind of old friend.  No, you don't worship it or fantisize over it.  But it does bring a warm smile and a bright heart when you look at it or pick it up.  That kind of friendship is to be honored.  When the opportunity comes to share those things again, a gun is always ready and willing.  Life is short, the good times go by much too soon.  Maybe I can find some time on the next sunny day to go out again..........

Many of my guns remind me of old girlfriends and I have named them after the girl.
I have a heavy barreled Sako that does everything VERY good and is named Jaunita. Another is fussy and high maintainance and is named Cindy.
Another looks great but not worth a tinker's darn is named Mary.
Ther is more but my wife HATES me remembering the "good" old days

Hahaha, I have never had enough trouble with all my guns put together to compare them to the trouble with even one woman!

My relationship with my guns has become less than honorable.

I find myself trying to sneak new ones in the backdoor.  When I take them out, I have to introduce many of them to my friends with the preface "My wife doesn't need to know about this one."  Many a credit card receipt and bank statement have been hidden because of my obsession with guns.  And when my friends and I talk about guns, and the wives are around, we sometimes talk about "this guy I know...." and the latest beauty he added to the bedroom safe.

If only my wife would learn to love guns as I do... ;D
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Nope....Guns only speak when you want them to... :D

They are like old friends...They get better with time...I have a few that I could literally write a book on...

Mee also!!! The thing I have going for me is 1) I have a safe in my"office" about a 1/2 mile from my house also all guns look alike to my wife.
2) I get expense checks that my wife never sees and they go directly to my "mad money" gun fund

My answer would have to be NO.
The reason, my guns never get mad when I bring a new one home.
After twenty years I can say it's a sure bet that the same could not be said for my wife.  :o

Well.. I've refer to two things as "sexy" on a daily basis:  Good lookin' women and good lookin' guns.   ;D  Yep.... We're all nuts.

Guns definately have some of the same characteristics as women:

The cost of a pretty one is much greater than a homely one.

Each responds very differently to how they are held.  And what they are fed.

Plain ones, even homely ones, will work just as well as pretty ones.  But, especially in public places, the pride of ownership is different.  Either way, both will eventually show the wear marks  of honest service and will become more valued for it.

Common sense is an uncommon virtue

You can always trade an old 44 in on a couple of new .22's
and a friend will always let you try his new gun out.
and you can put a sliencer on many guns.
BUT a good woman will warm your cold feet after a cold day in the field
