MARLIN 1895M
« on: November 03, 2006, 09:32:37 AM »
My eyes ain't what they used to be ,and I was thinking about puting a scope on my 1895M (450 marlin) I'm not going to take shots over 200 yards .this will be for Deer to Bear and Moose.I will need at least 4 inches of eye relief and can go up to a 40  mm objective ,I will need to get a quick sight picture up close too.it will need to be very ruged as this is a heavey recoil . not a fan of scout or pistol scopes.my price range is $200.00 to $400.00. so if anyone has any experience with scopes on marlin 1895's I would appresheate any input .I would like to do it right the first time. :)

I've had a Weaver Grand Slam 1.5x5 on mine now for about 6 years with no problems.

Just scanning posts on GB and had to shoot you a line about the Marlin.  I'm just curious about the amount of recoil you get out of that 450.  Kinda sorta interested in 444, 45-70 or 450.  Thanks

My 1895 45/70 wears a 4x Burris. It seems perfect. Works well on targets and deer. Not to spendy.

I have mostly variable power scopes, but when I hunt I usually put them on 4-5--6 power and leave it.  I rarely take a shot over 150 yd, and if I had a longer shot I probabally wouldn't take the time to adjust power up.  take the shot, if it is a good one and you have confidence, don't take your eyes off the target.  Now when I lived in Nevada that is when you need a variable power.
I feel that most people would be better served if they bought a 4 or 6 power fixed.  Just think how much better quality of optics you can get for the money.  And remember, the more parts, them more things that CAN go wrong, even with the best.
