Anyone try "ROCK SOLID" bipods from WalMart on their Handy?
« on: November 03, 2006, 11:02:08 AM »
Saw them for sale the other day for $39. Are they any good? Do they attach to a Handi well? Do they compare with a Harris bipod?

I have one of the chinese made Harris clones, it's made of material that's a bit lighter than the Harris which I have 3 of, but for all practical intents and purposes, they're identical in function.  They probably aren't as durable and would fail if used a lot, but for casual use, should work fine.

Reading on this board about undue pressure on the barrel from the forearm has caused me to stay away from bipods on my handi's.You gents who have used them could give the rest of us the benefit of your experiences in using these and how,if at all,it affected accuracy. Thanks in advance.

A bipod is the only thing that my Handi's will shoot accurately with. If I shoot off the hinge, they scatter all over.Mine wear a bipod on the front and a bag under the buttstock from the bench.  Digger

My .223 Ultra Varmint will shoot off the bipod, in fact, one of the best groups I've shot were on a bipod. My fluted .22-250 doesn't shoot well with the bipod in the rear position even after I floated the forend, it shoots best supported under the hinge with the right load. I think most of the shooters that have fully bedded their forends have had less problems with accuracy when supported under the forend, bipod or otherwise.
