1972 Marlin 336c .35 Rem.
« on: November 05, 2006, 02:44:26 PM »
I am thinking of trading a Marlin 336c that is in excellent condition for a Colt 1911. I purchased it new in the early seventies, serial # 720680XX. It has had approx. 125 rds. fired through it and was in the woods three times, its true. I don't care anything about shooting an animal anymore, so it has been sitting in my closet. Before going to the gunshop, I am trying to get an idea of what to accept as a reasonable offer. Any help would be appreciated.

I would imagine you could probably get about twice the money if you sold it outright versus trading.  I doubt a shop would give you much more than $150 or so, and could easily sell it for close to $300.

Just my opinion.

Gun shops buy wholesale and sell retail.  Your rifle is probably worth around $225 -$275 retail. (depending on what part of the country).  As hunting season approaches, it might bring a little more.

A gun shop will expect to make a profit on the rifle so they must buy at a lower price and take a chance on reselling the gun.  My guess is they'll offer you $125 to $150. or about half what the gun would sell for retail.

They gave me $200 and knocked off $50 on a used Kimber Ultra Carry II so I paid $300 out of pocket. Very satisfied with the trade in.
Thanks for the posts.

Irregadless of what anyone says, as long as you're happy with the deal is what's important.
