HotShot loads for .357
« on: November 05, 2006, 03:25:40 PM »
A search did not find me anything, and I haven't seen it talked about the last couple years (lurking :o).
I scored a .357 barrel w/internal choke at a gunshow early last year and have been slowly accumulating HotShots.
Used to use one a lot back in the late 70's but we just used the "store bought" stuff then.
Now I am starting my search for load info, anybody have this info squirelled away??

The original TC boxes call for 9.0 grains of bullseye in a 357 mag case for an average velocity of 1202 fps.

9.0 grains of Bullseye sure sounds like a hot load in a 357 Magnum load...BCB

gotta remember there will be no bullet to plug the barrel..the shot capsule will come apart and the lead and plastic will exit the barrel without much friction.

Thanks a heap for the info. Found 2 boxes of loaded rounds at the last show, but all of the shot capsules so far have been in bunches with no boxes.
A capsule weight of 215-220 gr is certainly heavy, and 9 gr sounds like a lot but the plastic casing probably offers little or no resistance thus keeping pressures reasonable

Thanks again

9 grains is what the box says for 1200 fps. 44 mag calls for 7g(1129fps)--8g(1218fps). Send me an email address and I will try to scan and send you a copy of the box instructions. Some time ago there was a thread about taking CCI shot capsules in 44 and gluing them together to make shot capsules if you can find it.
