Sort of O.T. Caliber question, Rebarreling a 357 Handi
« on: November 06, 2006, 03:09:48 PM »
Hi All,

Winchester has a number of calibers on the 30-30 case head size.
30-30 or 30 wcf
32 wcf
38-55
375 winchester
7-30 waters

Did winchester ever make a 35 cal version? and what would theoretical velocity be at
375 winchester pressures  I.E. 52,000 cup

I had been thinking about the 357 mag barrel and was looking up all the calibers that
one could rechamber the handi for...

Think Remington!! I had my .357mag come .357Maxi rechambered to .35Remington, works great, next up would be, 35 Winchester,  .358 Winchester and then 35 Whelen, but the slow 1:18¾" twist rate may foil shooting heavy spitzer bullets, but it shoots round nose and cast up to 250gr very well.

Your right about the .358 Winchester Quick, a great caliber and especially so if you reload, nowadays a necessity for the .358 since I understand it's getting difficult to get factory ammo for it, but then again I really do like those .35's!!!....<><.... :)

Boy MSP, you're right about the .358W ammo, Midway doesn't even list it, Grafs carries Winchester and that's it! Looks like Wisconsin and Conley make it, too.

Don't forget the 357 Herrett.  It would make a great short barreled carbine round in a handi.  The next 357 barrel i acquire, I will probably go this route with and cut it to 16.5".  My current 357 barrel is going to say 357 Mag, but the next one...

There is serval more that based on 30-30 case head size,
 219 zipper
 219 Mashburn
 22 Hi- power
 25-35 win
 32-40
 3o herret

I think 358 win is base on 308 win
