Hammer spring problem
« on: November 07, 2006, 09:38:31 AM »
Question for you all. I have a 500 smith x-frame and I've put about 3500 rounds through it, and the hammer spring isn't setting off the primers I feel due to the hammer spring weakening. This was my first smith revolver and absolutly love it. my question is has anyone exsperienced this problem in any 629's and such?

I have a .500 S&W. It works fine. Your hammer spring may not be weakening, the mainspring strain screw is probably backing out. The screw is located on the leading edge of the grip frame near the bottom. Remove the 1 piece grip and take a look.
