That same picture is featured on the wild pig hunting forum in the post titled "Alligator crossed road to catch pig".  In that post, the submitter states it was taken by Kennedy Space Center personnel in Florida (I think, my memory's not always so good).  That post was last added to Sept. 7, 2006.

That's how e-mailed pictures go.  They float around with different stories attached to them.  Who knows what the truth is.

I don't think there are crocs at the space center, they are alligators. The Reptile in this photo is a Crocodile.

But more interesting in that statement is that that are most certainly no Warthogs there, and that is for certain a warthog in the mouth of that croc!

I believe that is an alligator. If you look at the snout it is just to rounded and wide to be a crock. The background also looks just like the cape it may have been taken heading out to playalinda beach.

With all due respect, you have not likely seen a croc have you? That is so obviously a crocodile that it's not any question. Further there is a warthog in it's mouth and there are no warthogs in Florida.

The simple coloration on this Croc is different then an Alligator, and the snout has indentations for the lower teeth to be exposed, Alligators do not have exposed lower teeth, only the uppers are.

I'm simply stunned that this is even in question by people? It's like posting a zebra photo and having people say it's a donkey.

Gators are almost completely black

Croc's colors are much different, compare to the photo above now!

Okay look at the rounded snout of the Alligator with no exposed lower teeth, nor is there a notch in the skull, to expose the lower teeth to make them visible.

Okay, here is the Croc's skull with the exposed lower teeth and the notch in the skull. Look back at the photo above..........any more doubts?

I never said it was an alligator.  With just a photo to go on, I wouldn't know an alligator from a croc.  I was just pointing out that on the hog hunting forum, it was identified as an alligator from Florida.  As far as 'gators being almost completely black - it all depends on the lighting.  Just look at the 2 "teeth illustration" photos Mr. Hack posted: which one looks more black?  (I know, I know, the 'gator is in full sun and the croc's in the shade.  I'm not trying to start a fight here, just having a little fun).

The reply is in response to Briarpatch and all those Florida boys who believe it's a gator. How do they explain the warthog in the mouth too? Yeah that gator head is very much overexposed, but the point of that photo was to show the definite difference between the snout shape.

I wonder what those experts will call this?

Well, I don't think it's a Quagga.  I would call it a Zebrorse.

A sport model horse?  :D

Kidding aside, I was involved with a wagon train back in '89 or so.  A fellow had a team of mules with the same sort of stripes, but only on their legs, and I wondered if they could  be some sort of hybrid, over and above the standard, Mark I mule.   They were a bit temperamental.

Also,  Florida has acquired several non native species since I hunted snakes and pigs in the edges of the Everglades.  Burmese Pythons, caiman, and who knows what else, from escapes, owners just abandoning their "pets" when they got too big, or dangerous, and whatever got loose after Hurricane Andrew.   There is said to be a small, but growing population of  "American Crocodiles", I think they are called. Of course, that doesn't appear in any Chamber of Commerce brochures...ever. ;D

I didn't know about the snout tooth notch thingy, but I agree with JJ when he says it am a crocodile with a built in warthog!  Ain't nothing even close in FLA.

I would have to say you have showed me the evidence for it being a croc. I now believe it is a croc per your photos and explanations. I dont doubt but what you have killed a million, enslaved a million and eaten a million. I do think it snuck upon a  baboon that was smoking and got it. I can see the cigarette in its mouth. As far as that thing you have a picture of that is tied up I would quess a dog of some type. They have some funny looking things in Africa.

This is a crocodile and warthog not an alligator. It was taken in the Kruger Park at Sunset dam. I took the photo. It was either in 2004 or 2005 I can't remember. I took a whole load of him, some are floating around the net, I did have them on my Flickr account but since I have let my Pro membership lapse they've culled my galleries down to 3 and the Kruger trip is lost in cyber space. Here is another one:

Seems Bwana4711 may have solved the mystery.
A bit off topic, but there are crocs at Kennedy SFC. Biologists go down to Kennedy Natl Seashore in the saltwater and brackish marshes to study the crocs. Every now and then the local tree huggers try to rescue an "alligator" at Titusville that is in the ocean. There is usually a big stink about messing with an endangered species and fines are handed out.
