I'm down to 1 gun on my "wish list"
« on: November 09, 2006, 02:42:40 PM »
I think my gun case is almost full...for now.

I'm looking for a lever action gun for hunting that fits my needs as a brush gun and matches something I already have.  I have the 357 and 44 revolvers and a 45LC contender.  I've just always wanted a pistol caliber carbine to make a set.  The 454 and 45-70 are included so I have a reason to buy another pistol.
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Buy a Marlin 1894C 357 magnum, and you'll be happy.

I promise! ;D

The 45-70 when I shoot it I won't have to squint to see the holes in the target

Now why on earth aint the Marlin .444 up there??? With the XLR in the new LEVERevolution ammo it performs BETTER than the 45/70 in both speeds and energy, short AND downrange!!!

Don't forget the 45-70 ammo is still rated for the trapdoor pressures. Not taking anything away from the 444 Marlin because I also love this round. But the 45-70 beat's the 444 Marlin hands down when hand loading or custom ammo is used.

I'm down to only 500 left on my wish list. But then I think the manufacturers are getting ready to announce a bunch of new ones so it's likely to climb significantly soon. I've noticed that getting another or even another half dozen doesn't seem to shorten my list much.

Looks like the Marlin(Guide or XLR??) in 45-70 seems to be a favorite so far.

BUT...here's the problem, I don't have a pistol in 45-70 YET, so I might have to add THIS to my list:
http://www.magnumresearch.com/news_detail.asp?story=article_bfr45_70.asp

What is the accuracy of a 45LC out of a 454 carbine? Or revolver for that matter.  Is it the same concept as the 44 mag from a 44special??

Already have Marlin lever actions in .32 H&R Magnum, .38 Special, and .45 Colt; just received my new lever action - Chaparral Arms 1876 Winchester in .40-60 with 28" octogon barrel...  what a sweet gun this is...
You need to really look at the Chaparral Arms rifles-really smooth action, great shooting.

How does the action compare to a Henry?  I fell in love with the Big Boy the first time I picked one up.  Henry wins my vote on "feel" hands-down over Marlin, and ESPECIALLY the junk Winchester has put out over the past 10 years.

The Pumas aren't bad, I just don't like way their action seems not to close all the way.  The last Marlin I picked up was OK too, except for the play in the action.  I guess I'm just a sucker for a smooth-as-glass action.
