Just got permission to squirrel/rabbit Heaven!
« on: November 09, 2006, 05:54:55 PM »
An old farmer has been letting me hunt his leased properties now for the last couple years. The other day he gave me access to another 120 acres. At first glance, I thought it was only a wide open pasture field so I was sorta disappointed at first. Today I had a chance to walk over it, and nearly busted with excitement!

It's 120 acres, with about 40 acres of pasture that transitions into roughly 20 acres of prime rabbit cover, then into about 60 acres of prime older growth hardwoods. Although I'm allowed to shoot anything that's in season, I'm more excited about the squirrels, and rabbits than anything else. You can bet I'll be stalking that place to death after deer season busting rabbits, and squirrels with low velocity cast bullets in my new 32 Single-Six! ;D ;D ;D

Where did you have your conversion done and ho much did it cost? I wish I was that lucky. Nice gun.

I had Dave Clements at Clements Custom Guns convert it for me. He took a stock 22/22 mag. Single Six, and rebarreled it with a Douglas Barrel, converted it to center fire, made a line bored cylinder, made a taller front sight, a half moon ejector, did a trigger job on it, engraved my name on the bottom of the grip frame, and fit a set of Black/Silver laminated Lett grips on it. The work is first class, and it shoots better than some rifles.

It was well over $1,000 worth of work ;). He did tell me though that he wouldn't convert another stainless new model to 32 Magnum again. He said it was a real pain.

There are several places that make the conversion to 32 magnum. If you do a Yahoo search for 32 magnum Single Six conversion, you'll find a few.

Well, I didn't actually want it for the horsepower ;D. I have run 100g XTP-HP's to just over 1300 fps with Lil' Gun in it though with no troubles. I'm reasonably sure that shooting that bullet at 1200-1300  fps would never hurt this gun. The cylinder is .050" bigger than the original, and it's got quite a bit of steel around the chambers. The frame as you know is extremely strong for it's size, so no problems there.

I've heard of fellows running 110g-115g cast bullets up to 1400+ fps in these 32 magnum conversions, but if I need more power than a 100g bullet at 1100-1200 fps, I'll use my 357 Blackhawk! :o :)
