My First Deer w/Pic and Info
« on: November 10, 2006, 10:18:57 AM »
Here he is...yes, it's a buck.  ANTLERLESS!

Tracker I 20ga, Rem. Slugger 1/2oz Hollow Point.
Shot entered high on his left side and went through the spine and lodged beneath the skin on the other side.  It must have deflected upward off a rib.  He dropped and kicked a few times and was done.  As close as we could figure the shot was 75-80 yds.

My brothe-in-law is disabled and does not hunt.  He is as happy to have the meat as I am to be fortunate enough to provide it.

Yes, indeed.  I am allowed to get another tag and take another if I get the shot.  About ten miles from where this pic was taken, they got 7" of that white stuff.  Sure glad my house is further north.  We only got a bit and it was sunny and all gone by the afternoon.

We found the slug.  After going through the spine it just didn't have enough snort to get through the skin on the other side.  Weird thing is, the hollow in the center was completely gone...just as if it had been knocked out with a punch...from the outside in.  Nice, clean, round hole right in the center.  Never saw that happen before.

That's a fine deer and it's great that you are sharing it with some one that can't get out there. Go get one for your freezer now.

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun
