Prostaff, Legend or other
« on: November 10, 2006, 05:48:14 PM »
What is everyone's vote for a 3 x 9 40mm in the $125 class? I like the Nikon Prostaff or the Bushnell Legend. Also, single mount or double mount, weaver style or other? Use: 100 yard range shooting and deer/hog hunting under 150 yards.

Thanks.

To my eyes, the Legend is lots nicer than the Prostaff

Here is a pretty good deal

Bases and rings?  What rifle are they going on?

Great link to a great price, thanks. But now you have me looking at the Burris Fullfield II with 20X50 spotting scope for $199! I was in the market for a spotting scope but put it off for cost sake. So, thanks, I guess...but you may have cost me another $80  ;)

Browning BLR is what the scope will be mounted on.

Thanks

I think if you'll check, the Burris Fullfield combo priced in the $200 range is probably going to be the 3 X 9 with binoculars.  The Combo with the spotting scope is more than likely a 4.5 X 14 and should be around $347 give or take a few dollars.

I'd take the Nikon prostaff 3X9 if I didn't need binoculars, and the Burris if I did.  The Bushnell Legend would be my third choice even if price wasn't a consideration.  The legend isn't a bad scope in that price range, but my eyes like the other 2 just a little better.  If your looking in the $200 price range the a Bushnell elite 3200 would be a good choice.

The Nikon prostaff is as good a scope as any that can be had for considerably less than $200 IMO.  I really can't tell much difference between the prostaff and the buckmaster.

The Leupold VX-I is also a very good scope in the $200 price range and would be my pick over any of the above.

I just purchased a 3x9 legend.  I am impressed.  Got it for $109 at Natchez.  It is very bright.  they say 91% light transmission.  And it has the Bushnell warantee.  I wanted a mil dot but could not pass this up.
I read an article in gun mag that told how to figure out what quality the scope is.

Best= fully multi-coated lens
less= multicoated lens
lesser=fully coated lens
even less= coated lens
and if they don't specifiy probabally pretty bad.

that is why I bought the legend, it is fully multi coated like the premium models.  but is not a 1 piece tube.  If that will make a difference in long run I don't know.

Does every one else think that this is accurate?

I ended up going with the Burris 3X9 40mm with the free 20X50mm spotting scope. I'll let you know how it works when I get it.
