New to reloading .30-.30
« on: November 11, 2006, 03:02:20 PM »

I've been reloading for a few months -- just .45 Colt so far.  I plan to start reloading .30-.30 for my Winchester model 94.  I'm using a Lee Classic Cast Turret press, and will be using Lee deluxe collet dies and the factory crimp die.  My question is:  Do I need to use a headspace guage, or can I just measure the OAL?

I would say just measure the AOL since the cartridge is rimmed and it headspaces on the rim. Most lever guns are never shot enough to worry about headspace. One thing you may want to consider the 30/30 is a great cartridge for cast loads Expecially the Win since it does not have the microgroove barrels the Marlin does though I have heard that guys can get them to shoot cast just fine too.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
