Double Barrel SxS with Triggers???? Any New Ones Out There?
« on: November 11, 2006, 03:26:24 PM »
Anybody make these anymore, other than the current 20 inch barreled Cowboy models? I would like one with 24-26 inch barrels and either Cylinder bore or Imp Cyl bores. I want it for my brass shotgun shells with blackpowder for nostalgic hunting. Would the 20 inch barrels be long enough, taking into consideration I will be hunting Turkeys with it also. Thanks-Jack.

Never seen one without at least one trigger which begs the question do you mean "double triggers" or did you really mean "external hammers". I ask because not so very long ago someone else asked basically the same question and really meant external hammers.

The Stoeger is a pretty solid gun and I think is available both with single or double triggers. No external hammers tho. The Russia guns as now imported by Remington likely are offered both ways trigger wise. Also the Huglu guns imported by both CZ and DeHaan are offered in single or double trigger variety.

If in fact you mean external hammers then yeah there are a few left still being made but I'm not familiar enough with them to tell you who makes them or at what price point.

Oops!! I should have been more clear :) Yes, Double Hammers and Double Triggers(if possible). The double triggers is less important if the barrels are choked the same. Thanks-Jack.

The external hammers are gonna complicate matters some but usually do come with double triggers. The short coach guns made for cowboy action shooting are the most readily available now and the lowest priced for sure. Short barrels are handy not a handicap when turkey hunting and I've used them some for crow hunting so can be OK on wing shooting but definitely aren't a help there.

Maybe someone else knows of some brands with the external hammers and double triggers you're looking for other than the CAS guns that aren't out of sight price wise. I'll try to remember to look thru my shotgun magazines and see what's listed in the ads. There should be lots of the older guns but they are likely to be very expensive or damascus barrels one or both.

Thanks Graybeard!! Maybe the shorter barrels can work then. It is wild how some are choked Cyl/Cyl and some Full/Full. Which choking do you reccomend for Turkeys and small game? Thanks-Jack.

For turkeys you usually want as tight a choke as you can get. Most go even tighter than full. This is where screw in chokes are so great. But for most small game more open is better. If turkey and small game are the mail use with little to no wing shooting planned given a choice of full/full and CYL/CYL I'd chose the F/F and maybe have a gunsmith open up one or have screw in chokes installed if possible.

OK, I see!! Yes, nothing flying for sure. Maybe the 20 inch barrels with Full/Full would kinda even out anyway, considering the short barrels. Jack.

The Italians are still making som fine hammer doubles. Here is a nice one, a Siace:

There are more manufacturers there making them. And the Germans are making hammer drillings: http://www.samereier.de/bilderhahnfertig.htm
