binocular defogging product
« on: November 13, 2006, 08:46:10 AM »
Any suggestions for a product that helps reduce the external fogging when your hot and sweaty from hiking and it is cool and wet out?
My 10x42 Leica Trinovio are real bad at fogging up in the above condition.

Thanks,
Terry

Other than getting waterproof glasses, there is not much that can be done.  You can get a little bottle of anti fog that is used for ski-goggles or scuba gear.  I am sure that many scope dealers have something similar.....but most of them seem to be mostly alcohol.  You can buy your own alcohol a lot cheaper.  A little bit of dishsoap mixed with water works also.  Just apply a little and then polish it dry with either product.
I just try to keep mine as dry as possible, and I do not put my eyes up close to the lenses, but rather, I just put the tips of the glasses against my eyebrows and look through, then put them back inside my jacket.
I have been thinking of trying the Bushnell Elite glasses with rainguard because My rainguard scope works excellent.
....make it count

Other than factory treated lenses like Rainguard and Rainshield, the best solution for me has been Parker's Perfect, it works better than anything I've tried in almost 50yrs of wearing eyeglasses and I've tried plenty of different concoctions! ;) Got mine from Cabelas.

There's another thread a page or 2 back where it's mentioned, REI sells it if you want to try it and give us a report!

Cat Crap and Scope Dope are essentially the same thing and both work.
