Started my week off at the range....
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:35:31 AM »
I went to the range today. I had a number of guns to shoot and sight-in. Some where just to dbl check others where new to me and still others got scopes/mounts moved and needed re sighting in.

I shot my new 243 Ultra first. Got it on paper easy enough. it even shot the factory Winchesters into about 1.5" with no problem at all. Finally I settled into my favorite 243 load 40grs 4350 powder and a 100 gr bullet. One inch groups with out trying!!! I am happy and with some more fiddling its will definitely be under 1"MOA.

This is the factory Winchester 100gr Sp's:

Here is the 100gr RN in-front of 40grs of IMR4350:

Then I started on the 357 maxi. I had loaded some 170gr Gold Dots in-front of 1680 powder. This load with a 180 FP Speer is good for about 1" @ 100. The GD's are just about as good, maybe 1.5" @ 100.

I had some troubles with my 25-06 Ultra... Some loads I loaded four years back came out of the gun with split necks.

Then I switched to another favorite load. Shot two shots, moved the scope over and down and fired one more and got a stuck case for my trouble.

I also forgot my rod! So that was it for the 25-06 today. Too bad too as those first two bullets went in the same hole and the third was about perfectly centered at 100 yrds .

Then came the 500 S&W. Lots a troubles with this one!! I was chasing bullets all day. I just cannot get a good shooting load for the 500gr Hornady. I finally got it pretty good with 350's. but not what I am really happy with...not yet any way!!!  Finally, I settled on a different bullet, the Sierra 350 HP. Any way this sierra shoots OK. An inch and a half or so @ 50 and just over two @ 100.

Last but not least is one of my all time favorite ol' timers. A Remington M 14 in 35 Rem. Its never been a great shooter, its just classy. Well, i finished my day shooting up various boxes of 35 rem bullets I had. You know two bullets of this load and four of that load. (I have about 5-6 different 35 Rem fire arms) The last box was a full box of Factory Rem 200 grn round noses. I shot these off hand, leaning against a beam under the range. WELL...I couldn't believe my eyes!! I shot a one inch 5 shot group offhand! This gun wears a factory peep to boot!!! I loaded up five more and fired fast at the same target. ALL ON THEM could be covered with my hand!!!  I put in three more and tried at 100. Again this is a PEEP SITE gun. The front site completely obliterates the entire target spot at this range. I fire three anyway.

Here is the shot @ 50:

Over all a GREAT way to spend my birthday!!!
