Spiders in my powder measure
« on: November 13, 2006, 06:05:00 PM »
I went to start reloading after a bit of a layoff (deer season here - two bucks). I got two light weighings on my measure. I disassembled the drop tube and found a dead spider. Good reason to weigh the first load, even if nothing is changed since your last session.

Spiders die.
You did good.
It could---and well, did---happen overnight. It could have been over a weekend.
Good thoughts here--and advice.
Blessings

I once dropped a 32 caliber pistol bullet down my powder measure and it took me a while to figure out why I wasn't getting consistent powder charges.  Later on I found out why................Mikey.

When I leave my reloading bench and return, especially if its been a while, I assume the spiders and dirt daubers and grimlins have been at work full time while I was away and re-verify everything.

spiders and grand kids!! My grand son dropped a 35 caliber bullet into my powder thrower. I discovered it when I tried to start loading a few days later.I usually raise and drop the handle a few times JUST IN CASE. when it wouldn't move I removed the drum and found the bullet.A couple days later he got in the loading room and tried to drop another bullet into the thrower! I caught him and threatened to spank his 3 year old bottom till his nose bled. He's been in the room a few times since BUT he keeps his hands at his sides! I must have scared him out of a years vertical growth!!

This happened to me once but with my powder trickler. I turned and turned that thing for I don't know how long and nothing came out the tube. I thought ... what the heck is going on here. I dumped the powder back into the container and stuck a small drill bit into the tube. Nothing .... I blew into the tube really hard and out came a very alive spider. Just one of those things that happen that we remember for the rest of our lives.I bet that spider was real dizzy when he came out.
