Allright so i finally purchaced a stainles Encore rifle in .308 Win that I had been looking for for long. Here in Finland we have only one Encore suplier. I wanted to get a pistol barrel in .308 Win too but they would charge ower 600$ and it would have a 9 month delivery time. Grazy!! So I decided to go on my own and not to wait and spend all my money on that. I ordered a blank stainless barrel from Lothar Walther in Germany. This costs me about 200$ and I can have it in a month. I can have acces to milling and grinding machines this wont be a problem.
Welding can be a problem, material properties may change in the welding proces and quench in to brittle. Anybody any good tips?
Factory made ejectors, locking mechanism part etc. would be a great help. Very small things, propably cheap to buy but slow to machine self. Any good tips for the material for the locking part? Very important that doesnt crack when firing!
See the link for the parts picture below
http://upload4.postimage.org/1603466/photo_hosting.htmlDo you know anybody who would send ready made barrels to europe? Im sure sending could be done through one of my local gun shops too. If i find the contact, agree on price etc. and he takes a percentage for using his licence.
Sometimes your saami and our C.I.P standards for the chamber dimensions have slight diffence. This can be problem when getting the gun checked here.
For an other time it would be the best to find a suplier that would send allmost ready barrel for me. Anybodu know where to ask? I could machine the chamber in the C:I:P specs here. Im thinking about a .500 S&W barrel for later and I dont feel comfortable welding this on my own! Dont want that a large cartridge blows up my self weld seam in the front of my nose!
Thank you in forehand!
Sincerely
Juha
