Stock Front blade height
« on: November 14, 2006, 11:52:59 AM »
Anyone know the height of the stock blade that comes on the Handi?  I am in need of a shorter one.  Seems that they're depending on google for searches now, so that makes it hard or impossible to limit your search to one forum, at least I haven't figured it out yet.

thanks,
Ian

Depends on the caliber and when it was made! My Hornet barrel has a .540" tall sight, my .357Mag(now a 35Rem) has a .400" tall sight, and my older .45-70 barrel with the small screw is .470" tall. These are all older sights, not the new firesights.

Hmmm... It's a 45-70 NU, so that makes it a 2004.  As best I can measure, it's about .480.  What confuses the tar outta me is that I'm hitting low.. about 4" at 30 yds but the William's formula for determining the right height tells me that I need a taller front.  That would make me even lower.  Either they're crazy or my measuring is off.

If it's an all metal sight like the one in my pic, I'd just file a little off the top to raise POI. ;)

The one I have is all metal, but has a formed "bead" at the top.  I took it out to the belt sander tonight and shortened it by the height of that bead... we shall see what difference it makes.  I'll keep shortening it till it shoots like I want and then buy a firesight in that height.

3006bluffhunter.. thanks for the offer, but I think when I figure it out, the firesite I think will fit the bill.
