Choate stock vs. laminate for .243 w/bull barrel.....
« on: November 14, 2006, 12:15:41 PM »
.....just wondering the thought on the varmint stock vs. the laminate.  I have the laminate and use the gun for prairie doggin' as well as dumping yotes.  I wanted to see if there are advantage to the Choate stock.  Any thoughts?

I have used the Choate stocks -Varmint -Survivor, as well as all other offerings in synthetic -low comb and high comb. And also 4 different Lamintated wood stocks variants -Straight grip low comb and several  high comb lams.
If your bent on synthetic, the Varmint model is my favorite and is very strong. I like the Survivor on a shotgun..it just seems to fit right in this application.
Overall, I would rather work with the Laminates. They are stronger, and easier to tweek to make the forarm tight and an overall tighter fitting rifle.
Just my 2cents..

sort of comparin apples and oranges , they both  do the same but are completely different, if yur  goin to carry your rifle around  as a walking unit  id stay away from the varmint set  they add weight, and arent to easily pulled up to take a quik shot off hand,  the varmint set is mainly for bench rest shooting,  with the adjustable  stock  and the forarm is  got a slide on the forearm for your  pod,

Thanks for the heads up.  Sounds like I should just stick with my laminate.  They do look sweet.
