VELOCITY?
« on: November 15, 2006, 09:00:14 AM »
Does anyone have the velocity numbers, for a Prohunter, using 120grs.777FFG behinde a 250gr SW bullet? ??? All I can find is 100gr. loads on their sight, and NO three pellet loads at all. I've read some where that the 120gr. load equals the 3 777 pellet load, but can't find any data.

I don't own a chronograph, I have never been one that goes by speed but accuracy.  I am sure some has probably measured it. If you want to know find someone with a chronograph and ask them to let you use it. Nothing like first hard information.  ;D

This thought is really very close - that is why you can not use a a 150 grain T7 loose powder load in most ML guns...

I can not tell you the velocity of the 150 grain pellet load nor the 120 grain loose load for that bullet.  I can tell you with a 110 grains of T7-2f loose powder my average has been around 1860 ft/sec.
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - they are a blast....

I went over to a friends house today and cronoed the load. Out of the Prohunter it showed a average of 2115fps. with the shock waves. With a 240 gr. XTP it clocked 2201 fps. Pretty impressive. Now I can enter these numbers into my ballistics program, and set up a correct trajectory chart. :)

Here ya guy's go! :) I know that crono's vary allot in readings. You also have to take the temp, humidy, ect. into consideration. But for anyone using this load, this info. might be helpful (I think that's what this board is about?). Here's a link to the print out of the ballastics. This isn't carved in stone, but may give ya an idea of what's really going on down range. Ron    http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d86/rks1949/BallisticsChartforProhunter.jpg

I would guess not having a chrono (based on my 105 gr. loads) that with 120 gr and 250 SW,  if you bullseye sight-in at 100 yards, you will only be around 9-10" low at 200.... not 20.19" -- should your bore diameter be the same as mine.

Biff,I'll check, and get back. Well I checked. with a 100yd zero you will be 9.89 inches low at 200 yds. Man that was a great estimation. You didn't buy a lotto ticket today did ya! ;D
