Need input on Laser Cast and 30-30
« on: November 15, 2006, 11:48:12 AM »
Do any of you use the LaserCast 170gr fp in your 30-30?  If so then do you use a gas check?  What powder and weight do you have good results with.  How fast are you pushing them ?  How has the preformance on deer been? I know I am asking alot of question, but I have never used the cast in my 3030.
Thanks
Jeff

The 30/30 is a great cast cartridge. Yes if your going to use it for deer hunting use a gas check. I would buy it sized to 309 or size it to that and find a load that would give you at least  1800 fps. I loaded some 308 for that fps and killed a buck and a doe with it and it worked fine. I  just shoot cast in my 30/30 now.  I am not going to reccomend a powder choice because I have to expirement it that area my self. When I loaded up my 308 I used 2400 to get that 1800 fps loading. Lots of load books may not give info for 2400 for the 30/30 though I know guys do use it. Lots use Unique too or some of the other faster dot powders. Go to this site for info on cast bullets they have a lot of 30/30 info there. http://castboolits.gunloads.com   Normally I would not send you to an other site if the guys answered your questions here but since they did not I do not feel too guilty about sending you to an other site for more info. Just remember to come on back. LOL
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.
