Reeder Asthetics Opinion

I'll probably catch some flames for this, but oh my Gosh I have never seen more gawdy poor taste engraving than he puts on his stuff. I find it hard to believe that single action affectionadoes would want all that crud on thier piece.

Engraving?  Looks more like laser etches to me but I do agree with you on the gaudyness of the stuff.  It's all that gabage that makes me kina wonder about the product he puts out.  if it needs all that crap to be attractive to the consumer, what is it trying to counter inide the gun?

Yup I am with you Gary makes the butt ugliest revolvers I have ever seen. He also seems to put weird lines on his guns, weird shaped grips, no flow to the lines. I know some love his work and his work is also less expensive than a lot of better known smiths but I guess if you lack the skills to go head to head with Bowen you have to find a way to carve out another niche. Ha ha.

I've only been able to handle 2 of reeders guns, so I am no expert, but the grips felt great the action was the smoothest I have felt and the finish was superb. i have seen the pics on his web page of lazer etched stuff and I don't like it. But his black cromex finish and rounded butts are sweet.   Dune

He does not line bore so my interest stops there.

But monkey!

His contender barrels on the other hand are perfection in my opinion. The black matte finish is a work of art. I own two custom barrels, 20" 7 GNR and 11" 356 GNR, and a VVCG that he rechambered. They are the only barrels that have not ended up on ebay.

The one sixgun he builds that I am interested in is his #5 conversion in 44 special.  I would get the plain version WITHOUT all the engraving.  I am strongly considering ordering myself one.

converting "your" Ruger Hunter to a 5-shot "extra long" cylinder (to handle Garrett's 330 gr' loads) is expensive in itself !     a new cylinder, cylinder pawl, re-setting of the barrel for that long cylinder, possibly a new trigger, Magna-Porting, Maxi-Throating, etc........it's all expensive, and that stuff so far is all functional.   so, too, is the deep dish crown and the new grip frame/grips.

Maxi-throating (Taylor throating in another guise?) may improve the accuracy to the point where line boring of the revolver is unnecessary.

i think some of his stuff is excellent for its beauty, and the potential for power and accuracy SHOULD also be there.     i'd really like to have one of his Ultimate .44's if my money wasn't doing so much good elsewhere!

to each his own,
