223 handi: Regular barrel or bull barrel
« on: November 16, 2006, 05:14:51 AM »
Are their any differences in accuracy in the bull barrel varmint and the regular barrel. I plan on getting the 223 but can't decide on which to get. I will be using it as a predator rifle. ???

I have a stainless steel 223 in the standard barrel form and this barrel would be considered a bull barrel by anyone else's standard's due to it's thick walls and contour.  I'm getting .75" 100 yard groups with Winchester white box 45 grain loads, a tad over an inch with heavier bullets.   To me personally the bull barrel would be too heavy with nothing gained in accuracy, but I carry my gun alot more in the mountains hunting our small wild goats so the less weight is an asset.  To a stationary vermin hunter the heavier barrel would be a moot point.

Only thing for P. Dog shooter a Bull is slower to heat up,
I got a super light wt. it shoot 45 gr. ww box great.
If I was using carry gun it would be super lite weight'
set for P. Dog shoot I would get a bull barrel.
 Just 2 cents. Marv.

I have a 22" heavy barrel and I love it.
The gun is about 9 lbs with scope.
I'm 6'1" , 220# so its not a problem.
You only get one shot so might as well make it a good one.
Handis are pretty cranky about warm barrelsso if you want to do
a lot of shooting in a sitting Get the heavy.
Mine barely even moves when I shoot it
so I can instantly tell were I hit.

I ahve the standard barrel and as uncle ji said it would be considered a bull do to thickness.I like mine,as it is my walkabout rifle, the one I grab when going for a walk, and the buul barrel would be too heavy for my use.Now if you are doing allot of shooting, like barr says they heat up slower and if you prefer more weight in muzzle it would be better for ya.
