Shortages on handi's???
« on: November 16, 2006, 12:47:13 PM »

I think I read here first about a gentleman who was about to use a .45-70 Handi for the new primitive season in Mississippi. Today I read over on the leverguns.com forum a link in a Mississippi newspaper talking about how the season would work and some guy saying that he's selling all the .45-70 Handi's he can lay his hands on and trying to find more. I know I've heard about a shortage of .30-30 Handi's but are the .45-70's really hard to find as well or is this some kind of news hype?

  Anybody got a clue?

This has got to be great for Handi rifle sales. Of course next year they'll tweak the law a bit and everyone will be out of luck trying to comply again.

It is true, and there have been many threads on it here discussing it. Since they changed the law, 38-55 Targets, 44mags, .45-70 Handis/BCs and .500S&W Handis have been in even shorter supply than before the law was changed which wasn't great to begin with. Until Mississippi's deer herd is thinned to a managable level, I see no reason for them to change the law, so I wouldn't expect the supply to get better either unless Marlin makes some big changes.

I wonder if an out of state hunter could expect to have the same privileges? If they're that over run with deer it might be something to check out.

Looks like it would cost a min of $200 for a non-res license including prim weap unless you're military.

I just got my 45-70 Handi from Wal*Mart today. When I ordered it I wanted a wood stock, but all they had was one synthetic. There distributor in Louisiana is having a real shortage on some cal's in the Handi's.I want a 444 ,too. Marlin might want to expan the factory where these are built to help with deman.

By the way the 45-70 lever Evolution 325's kick like a mule out of this thing, love it. :D

Here in Mississippi, all large bore handis are getting hard to find.  They were plentiful a few weeks ago at a local gun show but now that the season is starting, they are harder to find.  I talked to one dealer today that is out of big bores until after the season.
Last year at this time, dealers could only get small quantities at a time.  I bought a 25-06 last Nov. just to have the receiver for a 44 mag. or 45-70 barrel I could never find.  I finally got a 45-70 barrel matched to my receiver this month so I'm set for this year.

They have several .270, .280, 308 and .30-06 in stock, also the .243 Ultra and fluted Ultras are in stock, the .270 wouldn't be bad for recoil if that's an issue.
