100yd Target Recommendations..?
« on: November 17, 2006, 02:12:55 AM »
I got some range time coming up and among testing various handloads and such I want to also test the capability of my CZ Trainer in 22lr. I have complete faith in this rifle and have kept it stock.....I even like the factory military sights on it which work for me pretty well. What I want to do is fire the Trainer at 50 and then 100 yard distances from the bench with the stock iron sights. At 25 yards I can see a 1" orange dot and sight in on it fairly well. This is of course impractical at 50 and 100 yards as I doubt I could see it let alone see it thru the sights. What targets are recommended for this type of shooting exercize..??

Hi There,

What you need is a good sized round aiming mark that you can make a lollipop sighting picture with at 100 yards. The normal black targets are good for this as you can sit it on top of your foresight with a minimal white gap between the sight and aiming mark this is to stop you firesight merging with the aiming mark. Bright colours like Orange whilst making it easier to see the bullet holes do not actually make good aiming marks as they tend to fuzz out and not remain sharp and clear in definition to the eye.

NRA 100 yard small bore targets are probably a good bet. Good luck and let us know how you got on.

Edit:-
Whoops didn't proof read and was horrified at the spelling mistakes and mistypes :-[
