Which 6x fixed power scope?
« on: November 17, 2006, 07:16:38 AM »
Which of these would be the best bet , Nikon Monarch 6x42, Sightron 6x42, Burris fullfield II 6x40, Cabelas Alaskan Guide 6x44, or Weaver 6x38? They are all comparably priced except for the Weaver, which is about $80.00 cheaper. It will be going on a little used Steyr Mountain Rifle in .260 cal. What do you guys think?

Last year I went looking for a 6X. Not much of a selection of single powers in Tucson but I was able to compare the Nikon against the Sightron and Burris. To my eyes the Nikon won and thats what I bought and am happy with the decision.

I have the Leupold which I see was not in the original line of of choices and the only reason I'm bringing them up is for the ease of reticle changes Leupold offers. I tried the super heavy and went to complete opposite with the thin target crosshairs. I eventually settled with a medium crosshair to use and have yet to decide which .223 I will be mounting it on.

My dislike with the 6x is the magnification being either too much or too little for the situations I've been using it in, and I've used it on several different guns trying to find a home for it.
