209x50 Magnum Pistol Barrel
« on: November 17, 2006, 09:15:29 AM »
I have a TC Scout pistol in 50 cal that I bought NIB in 1999 and yes I have never fired it.  After I bought it I learned TC had a fire in the part of the plant that made the Scout pistol and rifle and lost all their tooling and were no longer going to make them.  This made me keep this Scout pistol as a safe queen.  Anyway I purchased an Encore pistol frame a few months back and now I have a TC custom shop 15" heavy 308 win barrel and a 28" Prohunter 243 barrel.  I really like the 209x50 15" ML barrel.  Has anyone shot one of these?  What is the twist rate and what are the best projectiles to use in them?  I cast my own Maxiballs but have played around with some of the newer bullets over the years in my ML rifles.  Sabots are not legal for ML hunting in Colorado.

My 13 year old son got $250.00 for his birthday from all the family and has been eyeing this Scout pistol for a few years.  I told hime I would let him have it for $200.00 and then I could use the money to get the 209x50.  This way the Scout stays in the family, I can get another barrel and still have the option to shoot the Scout.  These Encores are sure addicting aren't they?

I would not sell the scout.

I have a 15" 209x50 encore and use it as  my main deer hunting handgun. I have taken about 10 deer with it I am using 90 grs of black powder under a Lightfield 300 alpha gold or a Barns 250 gr bullet they shoot close to the same POI for me under hunting conditions. I have only used sabots in mine. stay away from hornady XTP bullets I ahve not had good luck with them opening up and lost a few deer to them. every deer that I have hit with the alpha gold went down with in a few seconds.

you son will love the 209x50.

The XTP Hornady performs perfectly and is considered one of the best bullets that you can use in the muzzleloader.

They provide large blood trails, large exit holes, great penetration as well as tight groups.

Try them out for yourself and let you be the judge as to what they will harvest.

They will fill your freezer  ;D

I just hung up a large doe that I harvested tonight with a Hornady XTP 300 grain bullet and I mean to tell ya that this bullet is awesome, She dropped in her tracks stone dead. I have taken truck loads of deer over the years with the XTP 300 grain and have yet to see 1 lost deer that I put one of these bullets into.

Shot placement is the issue with lost deer.
