.30-30 Win Encore
« on: November 19, 2006, 09:54:22 AM »
I would like to by an Encore in .30-30win. Im thinking of a 14'' bull barrel with a 10vent compensator and satin blueing. For sights I want 2.5-7x TC scope. I want to duplicate the .35 Remington Encore thats in Handloader Magazine no 237 but change the Caliber and use Pachmeyr grips. I thinking .30-30 for cheap factory ammo to plink around with and then handload my hunting ammo. I live in Kansas so deer are the biggest game around here. Ive never fired an Encore before but the recoil from my hot .45 Colt loads doesnt bother me. What would 30-30 recoil be like with a bull barreled Encore? If anyone has some better ideas Im happy to hear them.

It should make you a real nice gun. I`ve fired a .30-30 in a Contender and didn`t like it at all. My hand is to large and the tirgger stop eats up my finger with and round that has much recoil in a Contender, but that is not a problem with the Encore frame. The only thing I would change is your scope. I would recomand that you go with the 2 1/2 x 8 Leuopld. I have a 2 x 7 Burrius on a 500 S&W that was on the gun when I got it and I just don`t like the scope. It`s the 3rd Burrius scope I`ve owned and the other 2 did not work properly at all. This one seem to work well enough, but it alot harder to get on than the Leuoplds, eye relief is far more critical with the Burrius.

I saw "handload" in there so I'll say it quick, you'd be happier with the 30-30 Ackley Improved.
Although the advantages of this round are more important in Contender frames, it is also a very efficeint cartridge on it's own.

Well the reason I'll handload for it is that my step-brother went through a reloading phase and has 30-30 dies, bress etc. Instead of gettin a 30-30 AI, couldnt I get a .308 and load down?

go with the 308. I use a 16 1/4 inch barrel in 308 and load it with 125 gr bullets. factory ammo is everywhere if you don't reload. no use trying to get more out of a 30-30 when 308 available.

I too would go for the 308 or maybe a 30-06 over the 30-30. you will have a  lot more bang for your bucks  ;D.
