Marlin 1894 from Big 5

The only 44 mag marlin makes is the 1894, correct?  If so, isn't $300 a GREAT DEAL??  I've been looking for a pistol caliber lever, and think this deal is pretty hard to pass up.

I've done some research, and the numbers don't seem to add up though.  Even at their "normal price" of $400, they seem like the lowest around.

Usually, when I find a gun I THINK I want, I check the going price on the auction sites, which are almost always lower than I can find at the stores.  This seems to be about $130 less.

Am I missing something ???
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

These rifles have a birch hardwood stock versus the normal checkered walnut on most Marlins you see.  Other than that, they are identical.

These folks quite frequently list them on sale for somewhere in the low $300's.  Great buy.  I have one in .357, and  absolutely love it.  Unless you're dead set on getting a 44, I'd look hard at the .357.  They're a lot cheaper to shoot, generally more acturate, and are quite capable of taking a deer out to 100 yards.

I got my 357 for $350 out the door.

Not as pretty as my older 1894 (70s vintage 44 mag) but a darn good price for a new gun.

When I was looking almost two years ago, the best price I could find locally was $390 for the C.  Was seriously going to buy it until I ran across a fellow up the road about 50 miles who had one I got for $320, slightly used.

I didn't know at the time but the one I got was a 99 model, and it has the side holes for a receiver sight.  Best stroke of luck I've had in a long time.

      Last year ( 2006 ) , my cousin and I both bought one of the .44 Mag's .  I also bought 2 Winchester .44 Mags as an " investment " .

This weekend they had the Marlins on sale for $ 329 or $ 339 ( plus tax ) .  Bought one in .45 LC .

This is a few days after I bought a Puma in .45 LC for $ 410 out the door ( including tax ) .

As some one else stated , the " Big 5 Sale " Marlins have the plane wood .  I am sure the steel is the same .

God bless

So which do you prefer? The Marlin or the Puma?

I'm trying to decide between the two

Thanks

Thanks from the Frozen Northwoods!!!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” – John 3:16

That still amazes me…I don’t care who you are or how much I care about you, I would never let you kill my son.  I can’t even begin to understand how much He loves us.
