varget 243 loads?
« on: November 19, 2006, 03:41:41 PM »
I have been trying to work up a good load for the bull-bbl handi. Best yet has been 43.0gr of 4831 with 80g sierra spitzer. Not bad ,but seems inconsistant with flyers.3 shots will cut togeather a 4th will fly 1 1/2 away Been hearing alot of good things about the Varget powder so i got a pound and was wondering if anybody could give a little info on good powder-bullet combinations for the handi with Varget? Also,i was wondering what bullet weights these guns seem to  like in 243cal.I will be useing it for yotes at medium ranges in the east. Been experimenting with the 80G spitzers so far, should i be looking at lighter-heavier bullets?

Check out my post today (prairie poodles) on the effectiveness of this load.  I shoot a 58gr v-max, cci primers, remington brass and 45gr of Varget powder.  With my .243, I can drop three on a dime any day of the week (before coffee).  Anyhoo, check it out and you shouldn't be disappointed.

I'd be cautious of that load, Hodgdon says max Varget with the 58gr Vmax is 44gr in Win brass, Hornady says 44.2gr in Hornady brass. :-X Hodgdon's start load is 41gr. ;) Lyman shows 45.5gr max in Rem brass w/ Rem 9½ primers with a COL of 2.625"
