First Trad Deer

Hi guys,

This is my first Traditional Archery deer shot with my 48" Rocky Mountain Recurve and Cedar shafts.  The 2 blade Magnus head zipped right through his lungs and 10 yards and he went about 80 yards.  All the practicing payed off.

To me it is very special taking game with traditional archery equipment.

Nice deer!  Practice, patience, luck and becoming a better hunter in general all needed for a traditional kill.  Nothing like it. Congratulations.

Thanks for the kind words guys.  I've been bowhunting for the last 22 years and this was by for the most rewarding hunt. I'll probably never touch the compound again.

I totally understand. I got my first archery deer in 1990 with a compound bow and hunted successfully with the compound until 2003. My brother-inlaw got me an old Bear Grizzly recurve for Christmas 2003. I started shooting, or should I say trying to shoot it, and as I got better I became hooked. I have hunted with my recurve, a Martin Hatfield, for three seasons now, (04, 05 & 06) and have been lucky enough to get two deer each season with it.

I know exactly what you mean! I have absolutely no interest in my compound anymore. The last time I shot my compound was in the 2003 season when I shot a deer with it.
