Does anyone handload 30/30 Ackley Improved? Im trying to decide on an Encore in 3030 Win or AI. Would be used for occasional prairie dogs and mule/whitetail deer. And I do handload. Some data would be appreciated.

Hello singleVI,
I've got a 24" barreled Marlin 336A chambered in 30-30 AI and I absolutely love this gun! It's my favorite rifle that I own.
If you go to Beartooth Bullets web site and go to the forums and search 30-30 Ackley Improved you will find alot of good information.

Good Shooting!

Go with a Contender barrel.   If you have an Encore a 308 will beat the pants off a 30-30 AI.

And the Contender is much more compact, more like a handgun to me. I have an Encore rifle, but I personally don't care for them in a handgun. The 30-30AI Cont. will get 2,400fps with a 150BT & the 308 will get 2,700 easily. My limit range limit for game with a
handgun is about 300 yards, the 150 will still expand in Deer out of the AI, so I am not missing anything anyway. I do the longer stuff
with rifles.

Of course this is personal opinion, so to each his own.
