home brew lube?
« on: April 22, 2003, 04:15:47 PM »
I have been reading about homemade bullet lubes, and decided to try something myself. I made a batch using 50% moly greese and 50% emergency candle wax. I had these items already so I thought why not try!  now I started to think about all the warnings about cleaning all the greese or oil out of the bore before shooting, this lube will be adding greese to the bore. is this stuff I made even safe to try?

:-D Hey Tree Rat:

I make a bullet lube using 50/50 bees wax and parafin wax.  Add to the bees and parifin wax, 25% by weight, moly lube.

I've used it in pistol and rifle with great success.

And remember, that which does not blow up in your hand, makes ordering five beer at once a lot easier.

Kindest regards,

I made some the other day using 60/40 beeswax and an old candle, with a bit of olive oil mixed in for good measure. Haven't
shot any yet, but it goes through my heated lubrisizer ok.

you do understand that the wax isnt what lubes the bore its just a carrier for the lubricant.

I've been using pure wild beeswax for years in my .44 mag , .30/30 and with maxi-balls in my muzzle-loader with great results. Don't much care for those that are too sticky or gooey, as they have a tendency to melt here in the summer.

Too cheap to buy a chronograph, and be aware that I'm shooting a bullet that's mostly babbitt, with some wheel-weights and a Little bit of lead mixed into one big batch. They weigh in at 240 grains +/- on my Pact BBK scale. I'm using a LEE C429-240 SWC g/c bullet with 21 grains of 2400 with an OAL of 1.595 and CCI 350 primers. I shoot them out of a SS Ruger SBH with a 5 1/2 inch barrel.
