H S Precision Finish
« on: November 22, 2006, 03:11:26 AM »
Maybe someone has been here before?  I recently installed a H S Precision rifle stock on my Ruger 77 Mark II rifle.  The rifle shoots great, but I have one complaint.  The finish on the stock seems to show every little bump and rub.  I can see that with a little use the stock will have little of it's nice looks.  It seems to cry out for a hard wax or some type of coating, but I hesitate to do so.  Has anyone tried any coatings or wax on the H S Presicion finish.  I don't want to mess up the stock and have a feeling that the factory will just tell me to leave it alone.  I may give them a call and see what they say.  Nice stock, just not so durable a finish for the price!

Have the same problem with an HSP stock - Want to do something but am afraid any kind of sealer will ruin stock.  Had not thought of a wax.

Perhaps an automobile polish. Not a cleaner wax as they have abrasives but just a polish? Any wax with carnuba would likely work also. Carnuba gets really hard when it dries..

I was thinking of just a hard paste floor wax.  I would like to hear from someone who has done it before though.  I don't want to ruin the finish.

The wax won't damage the finish. It may not protect it as much as you're looking for but it won't hurt the finish..  Nothing will totally protect the finish of a rifle stock that's in use.. Good luck!
