So I bought a new to me Thompson Encore that came with a 25-06 barrel. I entended to use this caliber for Javalena and buy a couple mor calibers for larger game (Whitetail, Muledeer, and Elk). Now while Im not going to use this caliber for Elk I have done some reading that with a heavyer load it may be effective on Muledeer and whitetail. Now here is my delima. If I can use this caliber for deer is it going to be too big for javalena? Should I look at a smaller caliber for javalena and use the 25-06 for deer? Or am I completely off the mark all together?
Now for the second part of my question. Lets say the 25-06 would work well for deer, what is my effective knock down range of the caliber? I live and hunt in AZ and some shots can become quite a reach. Im not intimidated buy reaching out with my shots but I want an ethical kill. I dont want a caliber that at 100yds will do the deed but at 300-500yds not get approprate penetration. I hope Im not asking too many questions but Id like to find an appropriate use for this caliber.
Thanks
