Price check on contender?
« on: November 24, 2006, 01:23:40 PM »
I am not a Contender person. I have a Contender that was my uncle's, and I would like to get rid of it. It has been in the family 20 years or so. Would one of you guys give me a probable price range for sale?

It is an old style (not G2) Contender with 223 Super 14 barrel. It has a Competitor Pistol Grip # 7507. The forend looks like walnut, and looks a lot like the current 7616 on the TC website.
Frame is maybe 95%. There is blue wear on the sides of the frame forward of and above the pin from normal forend friction. If the forend is installed, the frame itself appears 99%. No visible rust or pits. The hammer shows marks on both sides from the set screws of an extension being mounted. The trigger guard shows normal blue wear from handling. Barrel has one wiggly line mark in blue on right side below front sight and light normal half moons. Barrel has Williams 5-D sight mounted. I have the open sights that came with barrel.
Any guidance would be appreciaated.

Your Contender sounds like it has normal wear marks that occur even when they're meticulously cared for. The dimples in the hammer are another story. If you still have the hammer spur, reinstall it to cover the marks. If the centerfire/rimfire selector is on the top of the hammer, it is an "Easy Open" frame, which is a little more desirable. I would price your Contender at $350 to $375. Remove the William's sight and install the original. The William's sight can get you another $30 to $40 on one of the auction sights or perhaps here. I've seen them go for a lot less that I stated but not too often.
