Handi 1------ deer 0
« on: November 24, 2006, 02:38:24 PM »
I have had this gun for 2 seasons have not had the opportunity to fill my tag work work and no play last season. This season  I told myself I was going to be in the woods more. This was the first deer I have pointed the gun at. He was 200 yards one shot Just behind the left shoulder exiting through the neck. I have a stock .270 with a tasco 3-9x40. Ammo is .270win 150grain federal power shok which performed much better than Rem korlokt in my gun WHooo hooo its 6 bucks less a box  He is only three points but large bodied for around here dressing at just under 130.

I Love it ...was a little frustrated with shooting the KORElokts. but once she was zero'd with the cheep stuff I was even more impressed. Its my first true centerfire. I have hunted 12 guage slug guns most of my adult life. I am generally the guy doing the bush wacking for the older guys so a slug gun was more appropriate for the close quarter shooting. I love to still hunt with my smooth bore and just carry a couple slugs in case during my hunt. I have just really started seriously deer hunting fields. Enough rambling I was very impressed with my guns performance this afternoon she hit the mark and a very clean kill.

I am often picked on for my love affair with singleshot weapons. It is Ironic that I record less misses and more 1 shot kills than the boys with the expensive  guns. I LOVE MY HANDI< PARDNER AND Sportster.

Tim-- I was pleasantly surprised when I joined this forum to see the number of people that use these guns. I live in the foothills of the Adirondacks and have yet to cross a hunter with one on his shoulder(rifles anyway). Pardner shotguns are pretty common.
Thanks Bill

Good going illy goat! What a nice return in pleasure for the small amount of dollars you put into your rifle. It sounds like you placed the bullet in the right place at the angle you had for your shot. Did he run very far after the shot? Were you in a tree stand?

Again ... great job. Nothing quite like a successful hunt.

He was @200 yards I was Laying down. He was about the same elevation maybe a little under me slightly quartered away. I hit about an inch forward of the kill zone and you can see the exit wound out the neck in the pic above. He went about 20 yards before he piled up.
