Got him this morning at 7:30. He was quartering towards me at 40 yards. I took the high shoulder shot. I am shooting the 250 SST at 2,300 fps from a Savage. The buck was knocked over, and lay still, dead.
The slug destroyed the top 1/3 of the shoulder, passed just beneath the spine, took out both lungs and one big artery coming from the heart, and came to rest just under the skin in the middle of the far lung. I recovered two jagged chunks of copper, and one of lead, weighing 156 gr. They were laying side by side, but no longer connected.
Love the Savage.
