contender frames worth
« on: November 27, 2006, 06:31:21 AM »

I have a neighbor that is selling out all of his contender stuff.  He has 3 blue contender frames that he wants $180 for each.  They are

blue, no stocks, just the frames.  they are about 8 years old.  about 95%.  He says he has hardly shot these frames as he used a

stainless the most.  What do you think.  Is this a good deal?

Thanks

It's a fair deal for both of you but not a "great" deal for you. But yes the price is fair.

I plan to use one of the frames for a carbine for my daughter for her first deer rifle next year.  The other two I will either sell or trade

for barrels for the carbine and other contender stuff.  What do you think I could sell or trade value.

Thanks.

If you are liike the rest of us you will keep all three.  I started with one, and don't know what happened.  I now have three frames and about 20 barrels.

My first Contender was a blued one, and the frame with grip and forestock with a Super 14 .22 barrel and a red dot cost $300.00.  Barrels like that go for $120-150, grip and forestock (Pachmeyer) with hanger bar sell for at least $50.00, and the Red Dot was worthless.  That would get the frame down there to less than the $180 you quote.

While I would pay that for a good frame I wouldn't expect to make much money on them.

Yep,

Probably a fair price, and if I could pay him that as Cash Price, I'd buy one to have yet another.

It's nice to have one setup as a Pistol and one as a Carbine, so you don't have to change the stock.

What caliber are you going to have your daughter shoot?  30-30?  I much prefer the older 21" Tapered Carbine barrels, as they are lighter, but they would kick more having less weight.  That's the worst thing about the Contender is that it's so light, it kicks.  I have a 7mm TCU Carbine barrel which is a sweetheart, but I wouldn't buy it new (got it at a good price), I'd go for 7-30 Waters tapered.  I also have a 375 Win, which is great (kicks a little more).

I hope to have my kids use the 7mm TCU barrel when they are old enough.
