If you could only own 3 lever action rifles, what models and calibers would you choose?

Marlin 39 .22LR

Winchester 94 .30-30

Marlin 1895  .45-70

. . .all with octagon barrels, well, maybe a 1/2 round, 1/2 octagon on the 94. . .

Now only 3 that makes the choice harder, but here goes:

1) Marlin 336, 30-30

2) Marlin 336 .35 Rem

3) Marlin 1895 45-70

Which I could have a few more choices though.

Amended because I just changed my mind.

  Browning BL-22   22 S,L, or LR
  Savage Model 99 in 308
  Marlin 1895 in 45-70
With these three rifles, I am adequately armed for anything except long range varmints. My model 99 is sufficently accurrate for deer to 300 yards plus but I can't imagine ever shooting at one that far in a hunting situation (where I hunt it is pretty thick with a few 200 or so yard opportunities).  But I would hate to be limited to only three.

I have'em.
Winchester Model 92 (Navy Arms Clone with excellent walnut) in 357 mag. octogon 24 inch barrel with Lyman receiver sight.
A 1957 Model 94 Winchester 3030 bought new with a Lyman receiver sight.
And a Marlin 1895 CB with a 26 inch octogon in 4570, and Lyman receiver sight.
I got anything walkin or crawlin covered.

I would have to keep my wife's .32 H&R Magnum Marlin Cowboy, My 1894 .44 Magnum Cowboy and I would have to pick between my 1895 .45-70s. And that would be hard to choose in that race.

Only three? Hmm....

OK, Winchester 92 short rifle in .32-20
Marlin 1894 in .41 mag
and an 1895 in .45-70

That covers it all from small to large for me.

Well, I have three and that says something right there.

Henry H001 22LR/L/S--------4X compact scope

Marlin 1894M 44Mag/Spl----Open Sights

Savage 99 308WIN-----------2-7x compact scope

They all have very much different jobs, but I love them all just the same.
I aim to please - but often miss.

If you could only own 3 lever action rifles, what models and calibers would you choose?
As the legal ownership is limited to six long guns for a hunter in this country, the question is more than just hypothetic from my aspect.

The first choice I've already done: a Winchester #88 in .308 Win. Second would be that Win 94BB .375 W which I had reserved at the gun shop last week. But the third? A Savage 99 in .22 High Power would be fine, but would indeed be hard to get.

That was easy.  ;D But I hope that will never happen.

1) Marlin 336, 30-30
2) Marlin 336 .35 Rem
3) Marlin 1895 45-70

Besides the Commemerative Lone Star I picked up hoping to ride the prices going up, I have 3:

1) Marlin 336 30-30
2) Winchester Classic rifle 26" Octagonal 30-30
3) Marlin 1895CB 45/70

I think the wife would kill me if I bought any more without paying these off first anyway!

Winchester model 71, .348 Winchester; Winchester model 64, .32 Winchester Special; Winchester model 1886, .45-70 Gov't.
You mean to say there are rifles other than old Winchester leverguns ?

A tough question since there are a good many different brands/models/calibers I'd like to have, but if limited to only three rifles, I'd choose these 3 "classics":

#1) Savage Model 99 "EG" in .300 Savage (1949-1954 model).
#2) Pre-'64 Winchester Model 94 in .30/30 Winchester.
#3) Marlin Model 39A "Mountie" in .22 rimfire.

Tough question!

Looking at what I have, I'd go...

1) Winchester 64 rifle, 30-30 Win.
2) Winchester 71 rifle, 348 Win.
3) 1892 carbine clone (mine is a Rossi) in .357 Mag.

Honorable mention goes to the Marlin 39, but I really like my bolt and semi-auto 22's more.

Take care,
Bob S.

Marlin 44 mag ,a deer killer at 125 yards, best buck I ever shot

Marlin 35 rem ,a fun canon for the big stuff     ;)

My 3 are the ones I already have.

#1 Savage model 1899 take down 300 sav 1928 I believe
#2 Winchester 94  30-30
#3 Marlin 1895  45-70

If I could go back in time I would pick a Marlin 30-30 over the Winchester.

I suppose it would be the three I have in the rack right now:

Revelation Mdl. 200 (Marlin 336 made for Western Auto) in 30-30 with 2-7X scope
Marlin 336C in 35 Rem. with Williams 5D and Firesight
Marlin 444S with Weaver K2.5 (2006 take was 5X5 Mule Deer and cow Elk)

I know this is a leveraction thread, but there is no way that one of my rifles would not be a 30-06 .  My favorites would be.
1)  .243 caliber BLR Browning (good enough for anything small and medium).
2)  30-06  BLR Browning ( just about takes in everything and in a pinch will).
3)  45-70 Marlin 22" Barrel 1895 (On No. American Continent will take anything big).

As you noticed everythin I listed has plenty of ammo available for it anywhere.  From Florida to Alaska.  That has to be one of the main criteria for choosing a rifle when you can only have three and since I already  have them I don't have to do anything except sit back and smile.

I'm sorry I misunderstood the question.  I thought it said if I could on have three?  I sure glad the thread police were watching the postings so I could be straightened out.

So answer the question on the leveractions. I'm on the edge of my park bench waiting. By the way, I am not the thread police. I am the thread social worker. I help people that don't understand the question, understand. ;D

If I could only have 3?  Just 3 ???  Okay...

Winchester 94 in .30-30 with a peep sight.
Marlin in .444 with a Weaver V3 scope.
Savage 99 in .250 Savage with the straight stock and a 4X scope.

If I had to include a rimfire then I would have a Henry in .22 Magnum instead of the Savage.

Like my 1886 and 1895CB .45-70's, the M71 in .348 or the Winchester 1895 chambered for either .405 or .30-06,and really should say my .356 '94 BB or even any of my .30-30's, but the following can do it all with both functionality and style.

.444 Timber Carbine
.44 Mag '94 Trapper
.45-70 Sharp's or High Wall (probably the High Wall, less chance of grab'n stuff while walk'n in the woods)

I've already got two of the three so I guess I need to start watching out for a pre-rebounding hammer Model 39.

#1 -  Pre-rebounding hammer Model 39 (I'm in the market for one of these)

#2 - Pre-cross bolt safety Model 336A, 24" barrel chambered for the 30-30 Ackley Improved.

#3 - 1895G ported barrel 45-70 with a green fiber optic front and a Williams WGRS peep.

Dee,

I modified my original post above.  So now you can put your badge away.  The jest of the post if unknown at time was more an ammo answer that a gun answer.
