Any system for cleaning camera lenses will work for sports optics.  The important thing is to get the big chunks (dirt, grit, dust, etc.) off first while minimizing lens scratching.  Camera lens cleaning kits often come with a dusting brush on a puffer.  The brush on a lens pen works similarly with light mouth blowing on the lenses.  After that, if lenses are relatively clean/well cared for the cleaning tip of the lens pen is sufficient.  If there a other deposits on the lens I like to use a lens cleaning solution to soak on the lens for a while to dissolve minerals and other deposits and lightly dab the solution off with absorbant lens cloth.  Then solution and lens paper/cloth or the lens pen cleaning tip is good.
