270 Load Recommendations
« on: November 27, 2006, 08:31:25 AM »
Hello all,

I have a new 270 factory 24" Encore barrel and I was hoping to get some load information from those of you who have this same barrel.  Also, I would be interested in hearing what factory loads seem to work well in this barrel.  I was going to shoot some factory loads through it to break in the barrel and then work up a hand load for it.

Any recommendations you can give that will get me started in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

I love Hornady rounds.  I have killed many game animals with their 140 gr, but all their products are high quality

I agree about the Hornady rounds. I worked up loads with 3 different bullets, and the 140 gr Hornady Customs shot better from my gun than any of my handloads. This was not with Encore .270, but Ruger #1.

Ken,
I am shooting Federal's Power Shock 130 grain and I am having great luck. I consider myself very lucky. These are only $9 per box and they shoot great for me. Actually killed my first dear with my encore this morning. About a 100 yrd shot and he did not even take 1 step before he fell!
I would buy more expensive ammo if I needed to, but I dont see a need to when these are shooting great 3 shot groups and I dont even consider myself a "great shot".
