Any BENELLI shooters????
« on: November 27, 2006, 10:19:36 AM »
Does anyone shoot  slugs thru a Super90?  I was shooting rifled slugs with a IC & was not impressed with the accuracy- I just purchased a Colonial Rifled choke tube & would like to know if anyone out there with a Benelli is having  good luck with a rifled choke....

Can't help you with the rifled choke question as I have a rifled slug barrel for my Benelli. Got it at the same time I bought the gun. It loves Federal Premium 2 3/4 w/Barnes Expaders. Iron sights and this ammo got this little buck at 40 yards. Granted 40 yards isn't a long shot but it's a dead deer. I like to practice with this gun/load on one gallon jugs at 80 yards, the gun never misses.

By the way, thats blood on my jeans... ::)

I'm not sure if Benelli still offers a dedicated slug barrel but it might be an option you could look into. My slug barrel was made by E.R. Shaw in PA. If I remember correctly, it was a few hundred bucks at the time of purchase about eight years ago. Money well spent if you ask me. If I ever wear out my Benelli and have to replace it, I'll get another slug barrel with my new one.

try using the mod.choke.then the full choke.see what happens.I believe it will improve.with the tighter chokes.I have the 28" barrel with 4 chokes and an 18" barrel for slugs. but use both for slugs.
my huntin rifle is safe from confiscation only while my battle rifle protects it.

I just bought a supernova so I can't speek for the super 90 but my supernova does not like the barnes expander slugs. At 50 yards, bench rest they shot an 8 inch group. Not impressed. Tried the Fed. Premium hydra shock and things improved, they shot a 3 inch group at 50 yds. Then I tried the Lightfield, 2-3/4", 1-1/4 oz sabot slug. Now I'm impressed! 4 shots cutting paper at 50 yds.  Now we'll have to see how they perform on Deer on Saturday.

I have a current m2 with a 28" barrel, with the cylinder choke (only one I have tried) I can drill coke cans at 30-40 yards easily and quickly with the federal 2 3/4 hydra shocks standar loads
I snagged a case of them on a whim when I found them on sale for 1.50 a box

very fun!
haven't tried them on paper but man, they sure do blow the crap out of basketball sized rocks!
