I get a kick out of you dims that keep praising Klinton for having a balanced budget and a surplus. What a joke the only reason that happened was the Dot Com Boom and as soon as that fizzled the enconomy started to drop and yea that was before Klinton ever left office. So Slick willie gets credit for something he had nothing to do  with. Then I suppose if you REALLY believe old AL invented the Internet.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D LOL

Oh, I dunno. An estimate from the guy in charge of the program seems pretty good to me. Unlike you, I don't simply ignore information that I don't want to hear.

I guess if Clinton doesn't get any credit for the boom that happened on his watch, Bush shouldn't get credit for the economic expansion that happened on his watch, either. Actually, that suits me fine. I don't think the government should be messing around with the economy at all. Let markets do their thing without any government involvement.

That’s right just close your eyes real tight, cover your ears real good, and say la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la- la-la-la-la-la-la-la, real loud over and over and over again, and everything will be all right.

There now, everything’s still just the way you thought it was.

I don't think any party is always right.....  I do, however, find that one party is consistently closer to my position on many issues.

I graduated in 1997,not really that long ago,and boy I might be young but I do entirely agree that now adays the world is goin to crap, kids have no concept on respect because it isn't cool to use your parents as a role model now,but it is cool to look up to the many types of trash in tabloids or on television, example:Paris Hilton,WHOREx100,Kevin Federline, freeloadin wannabe thug who needs his ass stomped, well I can go on.I have a 12yr old stepdaughter that is in middle school who Idolize those prime examples of riff-raff,but she does it to fit in.We tell her to be her own person not like everyone else, she says NOWAY I like being popular.the world are full of induviduals that think they know everything and honestly believe that anyone that isn't on a social, financial stature as them have no say because the high and mighty no common sense, super size bank account people are up and above them.I think this country would be a whole lot better off if a common blue collared middle class person could run this country for a presidential term.In my humble yet sometimes totally B.S. opinion I think it would do us some good.

If my memory serve's me right, FDR,a Democrat, set up SS as a temporary tax/govt. payout. BUT, as all govt. intentions do, it changed. Now you have recipients that have payed little, or nothing into it, getting the benifits. This was sett up to be a supliment to retirement. What I can't seem to understand, why doesn't the govt. workers and politicians themselve's use this. They have their own retirement system. I guess what's good for the goose, isn't good for the gander. gypsyman

Since 1987, government workers have been a part of the Social Security system. In that year, the old CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) was closed to new workers and all new workers have been a part of Social Security. The new plan, FERS (Federal Employee Retirement System) relies on Social Security, a pension, and one's own contributions to a type of 401K plan to determine an annuity.

nabob, thanks for the info. Now if we could get the Senators and the Reps. to cut their retirement to a reasonable level, a bunch of us would be better off.(I believe they make over $100,000 in retirement if over 10 years of service.) And with how the govt. has been run the last generation, I don't think they have earned the right to make that much in retirement.gypsyman

I will have to find the link but once elected to office Sen or Rep even if you do not complete the whole term you was elected into you draw a retirement.  Elected once... Payed for life...

To quote Pogo: "we have met the enemy and he is us."  Truer words were never spoken.  You notice how this thread has devolved in typical fashion.  Everybody is pointing fingers trying to fix blame while doing nothing to fix the problem.

If the libs or "they" have screwed up the country, why did you let them????

The post about the young people not making informed choices at the polls is a real laugher.  Those folks that are issued a sample ballot by their shop steward and lock step to the polls are really up on things.  Those folks that vote one way or the other over some silly a$$ed single issue that really has nothing to do with running the country really have our best interest at heart.

Young people do not make informed choices case in point they elected Jessie Ventura in MN LOL just because of his celeb status and while he was not a bad Gov he could have done a lot better. About the libs pretty hard to stop half the country. That still does not make them right.

It also is unfortunate that many voters do not know crap or anything who they are voting for. It is also a known fact that Liberals are big on election fraud and trying to fix elections. They also have the powerfull union machine trying to scare their members to vote dimocrat yet some still lose their jobs. It is also sad that many that should use the power to vote do not. Voteing is not as black and white as you think.

Regarding Gov Ventura, anyone that has the b***s to tell the whiners, "the government ain't your Mother" has my vote.
Explain Gov. Ronald Reagan, Senator John Glenn, et al.  Were they elected by young uninformed folks?  What about John Kennedy?  Werre they supremely qualified for the job or did they enjoy some sort of star image? What sort of qualifications does one need to be a politician?
John Kennedy had an uphill battle.  Why?  Was he not qualified?  No, he was a Catholic.  In the south, where I lived at the time, you had knee-jerk preachers preaching FROM THE PULPIT about the horrors that would ensue if he was elected.
You folks might want to be careful about bashing the young folks.  Remember, you raised them.  ;D

Must be a liberal’s fault; because?

Conservatives do not vote in school board elections?
Conservatives lack the education to be teachers?
Conservatives lack the ability to be school psychologists or doctors?
Conservative educators lack the skills to be school administrators?
Conservative and their children do not have premarital and/or teenage sex?
Conservatives lack the ability to become lawyers and judges?
Conservatives in legislature were against, Dept of Homeland Security, the TSA, and the patriot act?

Life is no joke but funny things happen

jon

Well, there is truth to the fact that Conservatives did not do enough to stop the nonsense. The silent majority, at least years ago it was.
When God was taken out of schools & evolution introduced, the spiral started, Consevatives did not take notice well enough & the
downward spiral started.

Academia draws Libs like flies on dung. It is true that Conservatives for the most part used their College educations for higher paying jobs,
small business, etc. almost every Con. that I know who got into teaching moved on to something better for their families.

I have no clue why someone would say that Doctors are not Conservatives. Some are & some aren't, Libs. are more likely to be Lawyers for obvious reasons.

Some of the things concerning Homeland security & the patriot act are not pleasing to me. I wish the Libs. had offered logical alternatives, but in defence/terrorism issues they are clueless.

I agree with that. A great deal of the things that Republicans push, I don't agree with. I agree with the Socialist Democraps however
0% of the time. I hope that some Conservative, independent party will come along that I can support some day.  I am against everthing the Socialist Democraps are for, be it appointing goofy Lib. Judges, gun control, giving the same rights to terrorist prisioners as US citizens, disproportionate taxation for the productive to give to the bums,WELFARE, single sex/Queer marriages, protection of criminals & no regard for the victum & overall stupidity in regards to defence/military & terrorist issues of any kind, therefore they are a threat to the future of my kids & future generations.

And what happened to that culture & that World Power? Yes, this is nothing new, Greece, Rome right on up to today. A country becomes very
powerful, morals values, discipline, etc. go to pot & the the World Power is no more.

One could argue that the same is happening to us. Morals have dropped, that can't be disputed. Liberalism thrives in this decaying society, it is very much a part of it! But, I have not written off the kids yet. I know of many good kids out there, & we have many who have volunteered to
serve this country. I know the Lib, John Kerry types are not impressed, but I am! We may have a resurgance of values & we may not. We shall see.

And what happened to that culture & that World Power?

Well, let's see: after about five hundred or so years as the dominant power in the area, it started a decline. However, because of its strength and vitality, we still read the classics today. Right up to the first few centuries after Christ, Greek was a common tongue for the area and was the language of the New Testament because everyone could speak Greek. 1000 years as a force in the neighborhood? Not bad.

Rome? Well, using Plutarch's somewhat apocryphal dating for its foundation until the last remnant of the Roman Empire was taken by the Ottoman Turks took just over 2000 years. Not a bad record as well. They gave us religion, law, medicine, and a second common language throughout the region which, somewhat modified, is still spoken in many countries today.

When we reach those milestones, then we'll have something to talk about, won't we?

All cultures rise and fall. If you look, the quote I gave was from 400 or so BC. It took another 500 years for Greece to lose influence in the area. Maybe things were not so bad as Plato thought?

Right. Blame the voters for not picking the right guy instead of blaming the candidate for not making a better case for himself.

So the point you are making is that the electorate is too stupid to know whom to vote for. Sort of an elitist idea, wouldn't you think? I thought only liberals were supposed to be elitists. I guess elitism is an equal opportunity employer!

It is also a known fact that Liberals are big on election fraud and trying to fix elections. They also have the powerfull union machine trying to scare their members to vote dimocrat yet some still lose their jobs.

And conservatives buy elections by prostituting themselves to big business. Six of one, half dozen of the other. The only real choice these days is third party, such as Libertarian.
