Taurus Tracker in 45 LC?

Can this gun handle 45 LC magnum or Plus P Ammo, like the Corbon High performance ammo, and how will this work as a Bear back up gun.

The Trackers have a very short cylinder, I'm not positive but I don't think even a 270gr Keith will fit - just a bit to long - so you'd be limited to lighter bullets.

Taurus used to say their 5 shot 45 Colt was rated for +P loads, but as far as I know never specified exactly what they ment by "+P" nor have I ever heard of anyone shooting Corbon hunting level loads through one.

I don't have one but my guess is the gun should be limited to something around a 255gr @ 1,100-1,200 fps as a max load. That's going to be a +P but not a raging monster load like you'd get from Corbon or Buffalo Bore.

If I was going to shoot +p ammo I would most likely chose the raging bull.
although it is a high quality pistol, the medium frame tracker is more of a trail, personal defense wheelgun.
mine will be in today,I'll shoot a few max load rounds for you and let you know how they shoot.
although mine is 41 magnum, starting loads are 20 grains h110.

Thanks for you quick response, If I were to use factory ammo is their any out there that could get me more middle of the row numbers. Not hot rodders, but not your average round either. And if so who makes it. Thanks in advance.

Corbons defense load is probably the closest factory load to what you're looking for Britt, I have heard from at least one person who shoots these loads through a 5 shot Taurus 45 Colt so they should work fine for you too.

200gr JHP  1100fps/537ftlbs

the little tracker did very well with the hot 41 magnum rounds.I have since downloaded them to 18 grains.
the 20 grain loads really stung my hand even with gloves.
the gun gobbled up hundreds of them with extreme accuracy, but I'm not pushing the envelope.
no need to be stupid lol.
the gun can definately take some potent loads, but the larger raging bull would last longer with a steady diet of them.
I think the tracker makes a neat ccw firearm or trailgun, but good thing I chose the 4 inch barreled version, the snubbie would put a hurtin on most shooters.

Thanks,1 Bad Magnum. If I do load it up it would be for a trail gun, that would not be shot very much. Hopfully.

Anyone shot one with those ports-without ear plugs? I saw one of these at a show and it needs a few touches, 3-1/2" non-ported tube, and round butt smooth wood grips. Pack it in a Threeperson's and now you got a bear back-up :D .
