snub double action 45 colt?

BTW, I would rather not have a derringer type (non-revolver) for both safety reasons (I want the gun to be safe without a "safety") by carrying it without one under the hammer.

Also, I want more than one or two shot capability.

I honestly don't know of any double action 45 colt snubs out there, that would be smallish. Seems like they all have large frames. 44 special there are a few. 45 acp I see there are snubs out there as well.
I like the single actions myself in 45 colt with short barrels, birdheads grips, ect....not that it would do you any good if your looking for really compact double actions.
I think because the holes in the cylinder are so big and long, we don't see many smallish double actions in 45 colt around. Most double actions in that caliber have pretty big frames it seems like.
For double actions in 45 colt, you might be stuck with just going with a short barrel, and do something about the grips.
OH...almost forgot....how about the Ruger Alaskan model? Have you checked that one out? 454, or 45 Colt?

S&W's titanium framed guns are about the best out there.  BUT they are not cheap!  I often see them used in .45 colt and .45 acp.  44 Man

Trying to find a .45 Colt in a snubby is like finding a needle in a haystack.... I suppose looking hard enough you might find what you want from a Ruger in the .454 Alaskan in a 2.5" that you can use .45 Colt in.  Smith and Wesson does have the .45 ACP Scandium/Titanium/Stainless snubbies.  I also was looking for the same thing when I did find a snubby in .44 mag and a Taurus at that.  With the short barrels theres really no differance in my book and you can't go wrong with a .44 Spl/Mag anyways.  If your interested 44 Mag S.S. Snubbie $389 New!  I have one of these in blue and do not feel under-gunned in the least, and carry it 24/7.

If you still want just a .45 Colt and can settle for a 4" Smith & Wesson Mountain Gun here is one.

The 45 Colt is my favorite caliber. I had a Taurus M450 and was dissapointed in the velocity that I got from rounds from that short a barrel. From Blazer 200gr HP ammo, I only got 610.6 fps and 607.4 fps from WW 250gr lead std rounds. I have a 4" S&W 45 Colt Mountain Gun that averages 812.6 fps with WW ammo. 600 fps was the reason that I got rid of the shorter barrelled revolver.

I would love to take a beat up old 25-5, have the barrel cut to 3", butt rounded, bobbed hammer, and tack on fixed sites with a low-profile blade. To deal with the velocity issues, it'd have to be a +P gun, so maybe even a 5 shot cylinder. I bet I could get 850 fps out of a three inch barrel with AA#7 loads and 250 grainers, and still keep it well under 20,000 psi.

The S&W M58 is very close to my ideal form.

EDIT: Okay, data suggests that maybe 800 fps is more like it.

A 250gr at 800fps would make a dandy shooter. Ditto for the equivilant load for a 44SPL. I figure for desert bumming I'd be carrying handloads anyway, but even if I couldn't get that velocity the big, heavy slug would help make up for it. The 44 mag or the 454 Casull is just too much of a good thing for that kind of shooting out of a smaller belt gun. DWTim, have your tried Hodgdon TiteGroup? Excellent powder for the 45 Colt, I've had great results in my 5.5" Vaquero and my M94 Trapper. Lashlaruhe, that type of velocity is why I rarely shoot factory 45 Colt ammo, they have down-loaded it quite a bit. Throw in how you can fine-tune a load to your revolver and the cost savings, and you have a win-win situation.

I just last week brought home from the pawn shop a S&W 1917 that has had the barrel cut to 3in. havent shot it yet but have 3 sets of half moons for it and a friend akso has a box of 45 AR which will be tried, it the past the owner put on a pair of Pachmayers and had gunsmith ream the cylinder to also accept 45 long colt not too sure if I will even try it with them but will have a big weekend shooting several of the guns that have found their way home including the rem 700 ETRONX 243 I got and yes I have a 1000 electronic primers to load it with, find a used gun by just shopping amd have a qualified gunsmith build what you want.  JIM

With my 2" .44 Mag I basicly carry .44 Spl loads using 240-gr and 8.0 gr of WW231.  Believe me it is a very accurate load and still has plenty of smack-down.  A 250-gr fired from a 2.5" or 2" barrel still has plenty of smack-down even at 600 fps... the load is no sloutch at all.

You might have to settle for a .45 ACP. S&W has two, the 325PD, and now a 3" N-frame that looks pretty cool:

I just bought this one on Gunbroker in 45 ACP.  I did see one that was brand new in 45 Colt.  No one had bid on it and they might have relisted it.  I should have this in my hot little hands by Friday - can't wait!  Now that's a snubby!
