Rem 700 BDL bbl'ed action wont fit B&C stock...
« on: November 29, 2006, 06:50:05 AM »
Bell and carlson carbon fiber stock. Rem 700 LA barreled action. As you can see from the pic, the front part of the hingeplate does not sit flush with the stock, so obviously it needs to be routered out deeper. Behind the trigger guard is fine, it's just the front that is not flush.

I called Bell & Carlson, they said they make stocks to fit the current years model, and suspect that Remington changed something. This could very well be true, as I got this stock used (old?) and am trying to drop in NEW rem barreled action.

Just curious if others have seen/done this type of modifying?? Tips?

The subject title is slightly misleading, my bad, as the BBL'ed action fits fine. Rather it is the hingeplate that doesnt fit just right. Hope I'm clear now.

What did Bell and Carlson suggest you do to fix it?

I talked to the woman who answered the phone, but asked for a tech man. She says he's unavailable at the moment, but she asked if she could help. I explain the situation, and she says something to the effect.."if you can router it out yourself to make it fit, then go ahead"

I have no beef with B&C on this, as I didnt talk to the folks there who matter,... yet anyways. And I've no beef about anything whatsoever....but I posted this in an effort to learn from perhaps someone who's seen this before. I figgure there is some type of idiocincracy to be found, hence my post..

Just a note here.. they say they are drop ins but I don't believe them.. It shouldn't be too hard to drop the level of the inletting a bit if your a little handy with tools..  I've never put one on that was perfect.. Some required more work than others..A warning note though. Before starting work check to be certain there is room for the correction to be made. Is the barreled action tilted down so that the floor plate with contact it before reaching level? I've seen worse!
